Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where you have six attempts to guess a five-letter word. Each guess provides color-coded feedback: green for correct letters in the right spot, yellow for correct letters in the wrong position, and gray for letters not in the word. With one new puzzle released daily, everyone worldwide competes to solve the same word.
Created by Josh Wardle for his partner and released in October 2021, the game went viral after adding shareable emoji results. Now owned by The New York Times, Wordle attracted 4.8 billion plays in 2023. The game features a dark theme and a colorblind-friendly mode that uses orange and blue instead of green and yellow.
According to NYT data, popular first guesses include "adieu," "audio," "stare," "raise," and "arise." However, words like "slate" may lead to faster solutions.
Wordle uses American spelling, which some international players consider an advantage for US-based players.
Hard Mode requires you to use previously revealed letters (green and yellow) in subsequent guesses.
Wordle offers just one puzzle daily, with the same word for all players worldwide.
WordleBot scores based on theoretical optimal play rather than just getting the correct answer. It evaluates your strategy against its database of possible solutions.
